The Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA)

JesChurchA Diocesan Training Course for Parish Catechists

Faciltated by Charlie Davy, S.J. & Moira McDowall, RLR

There are all sorts of reasons why, at some point in their life, a person may begin to reflect on their faith journey and ask to become a full member of their local parish community.

Some people may not had much to do with religion in the past or come into contact with members of a faith community, others may be members of another faith, or others again members of another Christian denomination. Whoever they are, wherever they come from and whatever has brought them to one of our parishes, there is a need for parishioners who are able to accompany them on their faith journey.

At the request of Galway Diocese we run a certificated training course for people who, missioned by their parish for this service, wish to accompany adult candidates for baptism. They follow a programme called the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults, which is known by its initials, the RCIA.

The course has also proved useful for members of infant baptismal teams interested in rediscovering the meaning of baptism.
